Computer Science and Engineering

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering with its cohesive team of faculty members, offers a sound program at the UG as well as the PG levels. It has consistently fulfilled its role of producing Computer Engineers ready to satisfy the needs of the IT world.
The department has a good mix of faculty with experience from reputed academic institutes and industry.

Vision of the Department

To facilitate transformation of students into good human beings, responsible citizens and competent professionals, focusing on assimilation, generation and dissemination of knowledge in the area of Computer Science & Engineering.

Mission of the Department

  • Impart quality education to meet the needs of profession and society, and achieve excellence in teaching-learning and research in the area of Computer Science & Engineering.
  • Attract and develop talented and committed human resource, and provide an environment conducive to innovation, creativity, team-spirit and entrepreneurial leadership in Computer Science & Engineering field.
  • Facilitate effective interactions among faculty and students of the CSE Department, and foster networking with alumni, industries, institutions and other stake-holders.
  • Practice and promote high standards of professional ethics, transparency and accountability.
  • To  participate  in  design  and  development  process  in  R &  D  establishment  and industry.

Lab Facilities

Ø  Programming Lab

The basic thrust of the course would be to learn various programming languages and IDE.Itprovides accelerated introduction to practical aspects of programming and covers three areas:

1) Common programming tools, including Linux commands and compilers;

2) Basic programming techniques, including design, testing, and debugging; and

3) C programming, focusing on the major differences between C and Java.

Ø  Data structure lab

The purpose of this lab is to guide the students in understanding  the most widely used data structures such as list, trees, graphs, hash tables and the operations associated with them.

Ø  Compiler lab

The main objective of this lab would be to familiarize with all the phases of a compiler and enable the students in analyzing the lex and yacc tools used for compilation.

Ø  Hardware lab

The objective of this lab is to provide students with hands-on experience in Hardware’s, Software’s and Operating systems. This Lab is used for PC Assembly/Disassembly and HW/SW troubleshooting. Students can practice on how to put the PC components together and install different operating systems (Windows/Linux). So they can experiment with multiple OS platforms, how to configure computer peripherals and also familiarize with MASM programming and hardware toolkit.

Ø  Computer Network lab

This laboratory provides students with the basics of networking. They are familiarized with various networking protocol like TCP, UDP & FTP. This lab experiments on socket programming, internet routing and client server communication.

Ø  Computer Graphics lab

This lab is established for making the students aware of the concepts underlying modern Computer Graphics. At the end of the course the student will have the generic skills to design algorithms for line plotting, circle drawing with Bressenhams method and 2D geometric transformations.

Ø  Systems lab

This lab focuses on two major areas

1.      Operating systems lab provides the students an opportunity to familiarize linux OS including linux commands and system calls. It also enable the students to gain practical knowledge on various problems in OS like deadlock, synchronization etc.

2.      Database systems lab emphasizes on various applications in traditional database like transactional database and SQL querying. It enables the student in understanding various SQL commands used in managing the database.

Ø  IT/Internet lab

College of KMCT has a very good internet lab facilitating around 100s of PC supporting net connection. There are a set of routers and Ethernet hub with a data transmission of 10 Mbps. Students of KMCT can employ this facility for their academic purpose.

Departmental Association

VOICE is the association of Computer Science and Information Technology department of KMCT College of Engineering. The Association of Computer Science and Information Technology Department of the college have a prestigious working history inside the college. Initially the association was named as "VIRUS". From 31st October 2011 the association is renamed as "VOICE", acronym of Vision Of Intelligent Computer Engineers. The association is organized and will be operated exclusively for academical, technical and cultural development of members in furtherance of:

  • Promoting an increased knowledge of computer science and its applications in IT.
  • Providing a means of communication between students thereby increase their soft skills.

Technical Activities and Programmes

  • Open forum for discussing emerging trends in Computer Science
  • Technical seminars by eminent resource persons from software industry
  • Technical workshops for hands-on with the technology
  • Social awareness program
  • Communicational skill development program
  • Personality development program

Research Activities

Ø  Campus ERP

Campus ERPis a web-based enterprise solution (ERP) developed by the alumni incorporated with eminent faculties of Computer Science and Information Technology Department under the guidance of our beloved Dean of KMCT College of Engineering. It is a complete automated system to handle all the information related to students and all the other resources of a campus. It helps to manage different users of the system like Registrar, Students, Parents, HODs, Faculties, Librarian, Accounts and Administration. The management can have a bird’s eye view of all aspects of a college at the click of a mouse while individual users have access to their respective area of operation. The research activities are still ongoing to constantly improvise the ERP solution. Apart from KMCT College of Engineering, the Campus ERP has already implemented in 7 other colleges.

     Benefits

  • Anytime Anywhere Information– The management can login from anywhere since it is a cloud based system which in turn provides much better control over operations.
  • Ease of Use– It requires hardly any training for the users to adapt to and reduces the dependency of people because of attrition.
  • Improves Overall Efficiency– It is a very good productivity tool in the hands of different users of  the system and removes duplicity of record keeping thus letting you get rid of all the excel sheets  registers and other primitive methods of tracking.
  • Scalability– This solution provides scalability for any number of users having multiple roles that of Director, HODs, Faculty, Students, Library, Admin and Parents.
  • Removes Duplicity of effort– No record is entered twice in the system and the data is shared across different departments.
  • Maintains Confidentiality– Each user can only operate in his/her domain.
  • Image– The usage of this automated system greatly impacts the image of the institutions in the eyes of the students/parents/faculties therefore improving the brand equity.
  • Reporting – Several reports allow complete control over the operations of the institution.

Ø  Research Programmes

The Department, in principle, aims to develop research activities all the areas of computer science and technology. Presently Computer Cognition Technology is identified as the thrust area of research.

The department undergoes various levels for the research activities in Pattern Recognition, Dataminig, Image Processing, Computer Vision, Character Recognition and Analysis, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, Object Recognition etc..
