CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Civil Engineering Department was established in the 2011 and is one of the youngest
departments at the College. The department currently offers an undergraduate course in civil
engineering with a total yearly intake of 60 students.
VISION
1. To achieve excellent standards of quality education by keeping pace with rapidly
changing technologies.
2. To create technical manpower of global standards in civil engineering with
capabilities of accepting new challenges.
MISSION
1. To impart quality education in civil engineering to raise satisfaction level of all stake
holders.
2. To serve society and the nation by providing professional civil engineering leadership
to find solution to community, regional and global problems and accept new
challenges in rapidly changing technology.
To create competent professionals who are trained in the design and development of civil
engineering systems and contribute towards research & development activities.
PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The educational objectives of the civil engineering program are designed to produce skilled
engineers who are ready to contribute effectively to the civil engineering profession and are
ready to handle the challenges of the profession. The civil engineering department is
committed to produce civil engineers who:
1. Shall apply fundamental technical knowledge and skills to find creative solutions to
technological challenges and problems in various areas of basic sciences and
engineering.
2. Shall be able to analyze, design and use skills in order to formulate and solve civil
engineering problems.
3. Shall be able to practice civil engineering in a responsible, professional and ethical
manner and implement eco- friendly sustainable technologies for the benefit of
industry and society.
4. To take up higher education & to engage in research and development in civil
engineering and allied areas of science and technology.
LABORATORIES
SURVEY LABORATORY
This laboratory is intended to impart training in the various exercised involved in land
surveying. It is sufficiently equipped to conduct experiments such as plane table surveying,
compass surveying, levelling and tacheometry survey.
The lab also helps acquaint students with practical problems and processes such as setting out
of buildings and masonry construction techniques.
MATERIAL TESTING LABORATORY
The lab aims to provide students with an avenue to study the various properties of building
materials such as concrete, timber, steel and bricks. It is adequately furnished with facilities
such as a Universal Testing machine, Torsion testing machine and Charpy Impact testing
machine. There are also facilities within the lab to prepare, cure and conduct tests on concrete
specimens.
FLUID MECHANICS LABORATORY
The lab, which is run in tandem with the Mechanical Engineering Department, provides an
insight into the various machinery involved in assessing fluid flow and its applications.
GEOTECHNICAL LABORATORY
This lab mainly deals with experiments and tests conducted to judge the quality of soil and
aggregates. The experiments conducted here help the student to understand the properties and
behaviour of soil for the design of foundations and earth retaining structures.
The lab is sufficiently equipped to with all equipment required to conduct the experiments as
per the curriculum.
DEPARMENT ASSOCIATION
The department has its own Civil Engineering Association called KASTELL which is
dedicated in organising lectures by various experts in their respective field, group
discussions, competitions, sports and various other extra-curricular and cultural activities so
that there would be an holistic all round development of students.
